Short for S-adenosylmethionine, SAM-e is an emerging treatment option for mood disorders. In theory, this treatment tries to replace the deficit in the production of SAM-e in the body. Although proven to be effective in reliving symptoms of mood disorders, researchers are doubtful whether current data is representative of the actual results of SAM-e use.
Again, caution must be exercised when using SAM-e. Although definitely not a drug, SAM-e works like one inside the body. Like a drug, it could interact with prescription drugs like antidepressants and may cause serotonin in the brain to be overproduced.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids have long been studied for their efficacy in treatment of major or clinical depression. Growing evidence suggests that this oil can, indeed, have preventive effects on manic depression and is also very beneficial for clinical depression as well as other mood disorders. People who are dealing with the symptoms of anxiety disorders are less capable of relaxing or remaining calm than their perfectly healthy counterparts. Relaxation techniques teach patients to control their symptoms by staying calm. Some techniques that do these as well as help improved mood and concentration are meditation, breathing exercises, guided imagery, yoga.
